Freecycle Give-away

Keith | 19 09 2008

Unfortunately, we’ve been lax in keeping up with this blog.  Life has gotten busy since our last post, but we’d like to make up for it by having a Give-away for our local friends and Freecyclists.  As many of you may know, we have been trying hard for the last year to sell and give-away as much as we could in an attempt to simplify our lifestyle.  We’ve sent boxes of books to the library, bins of goodies to Goodwill, but we want to make this latest donation more personal.  Think of this as a free on-line garage sale.

Ground Rules

Please email us to the address on the ‘Contact’ link. We’ll operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you request an item that has already been claimed, we’ll try to keep a runner-up list in case the first claimer doesn’t show.  If the item has a strike through it (Like this), please don’t email us - it is taken.  We will only arrange to let you pick up the items (we can’t ship or deliver anything).  We’ll be available for pick-up this Sunday 5-8 (or we can make plans to meet during the week if you cannot come Sunday). After two weeks, whatever isn’t claimed will be taken to Goodwill.

Also, please keep in mind that our reasons for doing this are to reduce the amount of stuff cluttering our lives.  If you have a use for it, Great.  But if you don’t have a particular need for it, don’t just let it become your clutter.  If you’re not sure if you need it, you probably don’t - but maybe someone else does.

Thanks for coming by, and happy picking!

Looking Back on our Trip

Keith | 26 03 2008

We’re back in the states. We had a great time during our week abroad, but now it’s back to the daily grind. Unfortunately, getting Internet wasn’t as easy as I expected. We found lots of WiFi connections, but nearly all of them were password-protected. So I didn’t get to keep a travel-blog, but we did take a lot of photos along the way. You can check them out here. Some of you may know that I’m a bit of a GPS-geek, so I’ve also geotagged the photos here.

Our trip started in Cambridge, where my brother, Mark, lives. We spent Day One touring about the campus of Cambridge University. The colleges extend throughout the city. We took a walk throughout many of the most historic and scenic areas, and ate a local pub. We spent Day Two in Windsor, the weekend home of the Queen. The main attraction in Windsor is, not surprisingly, Windsor Castle, which is so tall it can be seen from all parts of the city. We spent the next two days in London. Unfortunately - or fortunately, really - you can only begin to scratch the surface of the city in two days. We did check out Westminster Abby and the Tate Modern, and we walked around the scenic Thames area (Big Ben, the London Eye, and Parliament). It wasn’t as much as we would have liked, but hopefully touring London will be much easier soon. Finally, we spent the rest of our trip taking it easy in Cambridge.

We are very grateful to Mark for opening his home to us while we were visiting, and offering to take the couch for the whole week. Traveling to the UK is very expensive these days, so saving on a hotel bill probably made the difference in whether we could have come at all. Cheers.

Crossing the Pond

Keith | 1 03 2008

Libby and I are off to England for a week. This time, we’ve brought my Dad and Step-mom with us as we visit my brother, Mark. We’re getting ready to board now, and we’ll be back on March 9.  Our Internet connections will be spotty as we travel around, but I’ll try to keep this site updated with where we are, where we’re going, and even some pictures. We wish you all well, and can’t wait to share our stories with you when we get back. Cheers.

Back to the Dayshift

Keith | 9 02 2008

So this is what a weekend feels like. Finally, after two more weeks of Forced Outage, St. Lucie Unit 2 is back up and online. I have rotated back to dayshift now, and I’m really enjoying the time off. We will need to get back to working on our townhouse soon, but first we hope to catch up on some things around the house, and see our friends again.

Garage Sale

Keith | 2 02 2008

We had a garage sale today, and were able to clear out a bunch of stuff that had just been taking up space where we should be parking our cars.  It was a beautiful morning.  We got set up nice and early, but it took a while for people to start showing up.  Someone said that another garage sale had been detouring from our path, confusing many of the sale-goers.

Most of our bigger pieces sold, which we’re very glad about, and our final sales were above $200.  Now the rest will be donated to a charity, once we find one nearby.  We used to just drop it all off at the Goodwill, but maybe this time we’ll try to find a more obscure group.

My Nuclear Winter

Keith | 29 01 2008

Hey guys.  Well, I knew it was too good to last.  After being in ‘outage-mode’ for six months, I finally got to go back to work on a normal schedule.  You know, the kind with weekends and 8-hour days.  Sadly, these three weeks were only a temporary reprieve from the nuclear lifestyle.  This morning, Unit 2 decided to act up again, so it was taken off-line.  Since the work to be done will certainly take 1-2 weeks (or more), my duties will become a primary focus of the outage.  To provide constant coverage, my supervisor Jon and I will be splitting the shifts.  So I will be covering the 6PM-6AM shift, meaning I will not be getting to see many of you for a while.  Libby will still be on the sunny schedule, and would probably be happy to have some company for these few weeks.  I wish all you well and hope to see you soon.

Two names, One blog

Keith | 19 01 2008

We’ve now acquired the domain LibbyandKeith.com, which also directs to this blog. KeithandLibby.com will still be the true website, but now you have to remember which order the names are in. Plus it saves us the future argument about why so-and-so’s name gets to be first.  Besides, we all know who really is the better half (just kidding of course).  Don’t worry, we can’t see which link generates more hits so don’t worry about hurting anyone’s feelings.

We’re Back

Keith | 17 01 2008

Hey everyone. We have gone through a transition here at KeithandLibby.com, and now we’re back online. Our wedding website that used to be here can now be found at http://keithandlibby.com/ourwedding . It isn’t really being used any more, but we’d like to keep it around for historical and sentimental reasons. We will now be using our site to give updates on our whereabouts, projects, travels, and other interests to anyone who’s like to know. Please contact us if you have any question, concerns, or just want to say hi by using the Contact button. We wish you all well and hope to hear from you soon.
